Im using Windows ME and im a Dell computer. I have 2 hard drives on my computer and i have a serious problem. When i try to shut down my computer it WILL NOT SHUT DOWN! The only way i can get it to shut down is to hold the power button for about 5 seconds or more. At the splash screen it just locks up and it will not do anything. I know i have a serious lagging problem on my computer when i load programs. Like when you have a program running and hit the browse button to browse for a file i $hit you not it takes about 3 and a half minutes before it will let me look other wise it will just hang up and not do anyting. Im also on a cable connection. I dont know if being on a cable connectoion would have anything to do with it. But i will tell you this i have never seen a computer that goes as slow as this one. Does anyone have a tips as to why i cant shut down my computer. Also on a side note im connected to a power strip with a $hit load of other stuff plugged into it. I dont think its a power problem. I think what ever the problem is, is internal. WOuld it run that slow if i had a small amount of ram. This isnt my computer im getting help for a freind, He has about 100Gb worth or space on his computers hard drive. And he has two HD's im not sure how much on each. Im not sure of the ram. But it says his computer was designed to run WIN2K Pro and above and hes runing ME. Tips and help excepted everybody! Much abliged!

Here is a tip I received here at PC Mech when I was having shut down problems. It has worked very nicely for me.
Place your windows disc into your CD Rom. Go to Start/Run and type in sfc, (System File Checker), then click on OK. This will give you a pop up window. You may now either check your entire system for windows file errors and replace damaged files or just fix a specific file. In this case you would most likely just want to fix two files. c:/windows/system/logow.sys and c:/windows/system/logos.sys These are the file involved in shut down. Hope this helps.
