Whenever I try to put my PC on standby in Windows XP Professional the screen blanks for a few seconds and the hard drives spin down, but it then wakes itself up again automatically after about 4 or 5 seconds have elapsed. I also have Windows 98 installed on the same computer (but on a different partition) and it has no trouble going into standby mode. Both of these OS’s are running in ACPI mode, and since standby mode works on one OS I don’t think I have a dodgy BIOS. Does anyone know how I can fix this – is there any patches?

I know there was a Windows Update patch that addressed some issue about resuming from standby in Windows XP. How current are you with the update downloads? You may have already downloaded it, but run Windows Update to see if you have or not.
