Dual boot ???

I recently installed a new copy of Win XP home OEM edition, I used the boot disks availible from microsoft etc.
Ok all went reasonably smoothly, but now when I start my comp I am given a choice of 2 OS`s

Microsoft Windows XP home edition
Microsoft windows

If I click on XP, all is good
If I click on Microsoft Windows, I get nothing

I want to remove the option of two OS`s and just boot straight into XP home.
I read that an edit to the boot.ini can help, but I searched for boot.ini and I dont have one ????

Any help or more info would be great

scouser72003,

Good morning , and Welcome to PC-Mech.

You need to edit your boot.ini file, you can find it in C:\ make sure you have selected to view hidden and system files, that can be found in VIEW - Folder Options.

or you can go through Control Panel - Folder options.

Hope This Helps.

Mike

Another way to edit your boot.ini is to right-click on my computer and go to properties. then click the advanced tab. Then there is a button at the bottom for the startup and system recovery options. Click the settings button there and at the top you'll see your boot.ini options. You can then click the edit button and delete the windows option.
While your in there go down to where it says System Failure. Make sure Automatic Restart is unchecked. So if you ever get a BSOD at startup you can actually see the error you're getting. I've seen too many computer that will automatically reboot before you can even see the error. So unchecking this box might help you solve a future problem.

Welcome to PCMech, scouser72003!

Have you tried to install 2 O/S's for a dual boot?
How do you have your partitions set up? What's on them? (ie - data, winXP, empty, etc.)
