DOS games in Win 2000

How can I play DOS games in Win2000? Whenever I try to configure the sound card they crash.

My sound card is an SB Live! X-Gamer. In Win98 I had the DOS compatibility program but it's missing in 2000. And since 2000 doesn't have config.sys and autoexec.bat...

And no, dual boot is NOT an option. I am tired of installing Windows.

TIA

What I know it's something to do with the 'Hardware Abstraction Layer' (HAL) in Windows 2000 system design, it does'nt allows any attempt from Dos to modify it's hardware, only the HAL does the tasks. If it attempts to do it, then it'll crash.

Hi Donald, thanks for the link.

According to the info there it seems I'm way outta luck. Win2k/XP won't let the apps access the hardware directly.

A workaround must exist or can be created, though. Unfortunately I'm no programmer so I'm screwed.

Thanks for your replies, fellows.

They make a program called VMware that will emulate a PC. Bios and all. Install dos 6.22 (oldie but goodie) and get back into the old days. the best part is you can have it share your network and everything. Have multiple machines run at the same time and have different settings for each machine. Check it out. www.vmware.com tell me what you think. download the trial and see for your self.
