ME and USB issues
All,
I recently purchased a Canon digital camera. It comes with a USB connection for downloading pictures. I cannot get it to work properly. Either with the Canon Zoombrowser software nor the scanners and camera wizard that pops up each time I plug the camera in. Here is what happens: I plug the camera in It is recognized right away I can begin the transfer of pics using Zoombrowser or the Wizard and everything looks fine It gets to about the 3rd picture transferred (no matter how many I have in the cam) and just freezes up. I have to reboot at that point a lot of the time to unlock the PC. I have installed and uninstalled the software numerous times with the same issue occuring. So, I went and bought a flash card reader - thinking that would be the fix to my problem - nope! It will not work properly either. It is recognized as well - but for most of the time when I have a card inserted it says that I don't have one inserted or that it is not formatted. I know that is not the case. Do I just have all around USB issues - I went to Microsoft.com and checked to see if there were any patches or fixes for anything like this and nothing came up. I have the most recent drivers installed for my motherboard as well. I'm lost and cannot download photos to my PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Windows ME 256 MB PC133 RAM AMD Athlon 850Mhz No other USB devices on the system |

Try running msconfig and cleaning up your start up tab to the barest of minimums.
It sounds like a resource issue to me. Which ME deals with worse than the other W9x systems. |

What you describe is not USB related, it is more than likely a bad Flash card. I have seen this problem, where the camera takes the picutre and will display it on it's own screen, but you cannot download the picture via a cable or from a reader. And it is always a defective card.

It is not a bad card - hooked the camera to a Windows XP based laptop and downloaded the pictures fine. That is how I know the problem lies with my Pc and not the card nor the camera.

You may need an updated USB filter driver for your motherboard's chipset.
