XP startup menu

In the startup menu in the system configuration utility in XP, is there a way to remove an item from the startup menu? Or do I just have to uncheck the item, and run selective startup?

What are you trying to stop?
How is the program loading?
Taking the tick mark out of a startup item is the correct way, unless the program has a built in option to "Start with Windows".

I just wanted to try and stop some programs from loading that I don't use and are using resources.

With XP you should use services.msc instead of msconfig. Heres a link that I found very helpful.www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
