I'm going to have to quit digging. The more I mess with my PC with XP the deeper the hole I'm trying to crawl out of without formating and install.
Latest issues; When I click Help and Support from the start menue it does not open up. I briefly get a hourglass like it is going to open and then nothing. Trying to defrag "D". This is where XP is located on my dual boot system. Get message: Some files on this volume could not be defragmented and it ends. Tried in safe mode with same results, nor did it run from command prompt. I don't won't to start over so any help is appreciated. Chas

Have you tried doing a system restore yet?

I know it sounds simplicistic, but has the problem started since a program\device install? If so, uninstall and try again.
Also I`ve found a good basic cleanup of a system sometimes works wonders. |

Cain't get into Help and support to do a restore. If you mean a reinstallation, I did one of those couple of weeks ago. Not sure if this problem existed prior to that or not as I haven't had occasion to use the service for couple of months. May try that if I cain't get it running. Problem with reinstallation is you have to reinstall SP1 and all the updates again.
Been doing cleanup, hence my second issue. I'm unable to get defrag to work due to the message; Some files on this volume could not be defragmented. Chas |
