Microsoft Access HELP!!!! pleease

I have a database with records that contain dropdown boxes as well as checkboxes. How do I run a query that can:

a) count the number of checked boxes
b) tally the different choices in the dropdown box

I've been trying....I assumed that you would use the criteria field in the query to make it filter only checks, but i have no idea how to do it

Please help me people this is urgent
Thank you
