In XP when selecting scandisk then I need to check in te boxes.
One is- Automatically fix file system errors and the other Attempt to recover bad sectors. Then I must restart the machine so that scan disk can take place. The problem is when I reach phase 4 of 5 around 96% my pc stops. Nothing is happening. I thought it was the system but the light at my pc does not emit any color. I left it around 30 minutes still nothing hapens. How to correct this problem? I can check one box and it only does up to phase 3. This is for my main system HD drive C:

matt: This won't help - this is a chkdsk on restart, I'd say the hard drive has a geometry problem or bad sectors, time to run hard drive manufacturer's diagnostics.

Where do I find this diagnostics tool? I bought my stuff from a dealer's place, I did not receive any other things exept HD. I am using a Seagate Barracuda 80gb that is giving me problems. Bad sectors will not become more right-like the SARS virus?
