hmm, i thought you could bypass the logo testing crap that Microsoft uses. maybe try uninstalling DirectX 8 first. it won't be easy though.

Are you sure you dowloaded the 2000/XP version of DX9? Are you sure it's DX9 and not DX9a?

DX9a is an alpha version.

Get the full version. Make sure it's DX9--just DX9--and for your O/S.

[edit]: Hmm... I just searched MS's site and DX9 was nowhere to be found. Curious...

Directx 9.0a is not the Alpha version. It is the latest release. Get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx

How do you connect to the internet? Through a modem or broadband?
Does the computer have both a modem and NIC installed?
If using a NIC, is the modem stuff properly disabled in BIOS?
If using a modem, does it work properly?
Was there a different modem in this machine previously?
Have you tried installing different drivers for modem, or other serial devices, and any of them failed?
Are there any yellow ! marks in device mangler?

Well Ok if you want to try to help me,you're welcome to.

When i press Audio tunning wizard on msn I get this error (see att) then I was told to download the latest drivers for Ati, which I did and it does solve the Msn problem but then creates a new problem.

The new problem is that a whole list of yellow ? marks apear in the Divice Manager section. So far I've had to roll back the drivers to get rid of them.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Which version of Messenger?
Have you tried updating it?
Which ATI video card do you have?
What driver version?
I have a feeling that it's related to the previous problem, and maybe DX9 will help fix it.

According to the XP registry, the error comes from WDM Streaming Crossbar Devices (the friendly name for the error you're getting, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{da4e3da0-d07d-11d0-bd50-00a0c911ce86}\Instance\{A799A801-A46D-11d0-A18C-00A02401DCD4}
Run dxdiag and see if there's any problems in Audio.
See if there's still a problem in Network.
Have you updated the NIC driver?

NIC, aka LAN adapter. Dirver update for XP (direct download) ftp://www.dlinknet.com/NIC/dfe-538tx/DFE-538TX_XP.exe
Audio driver: http://www.americas.creative.com/support/

In dxdiag, run the "Direct Play" tests on the Network tab.

I would uninstall MSN Messenger completely, via add/remove programs, windows components.
Restart, then download the latest from http://messenger.msn.com/ and install it.

Is this the proper way to install that new driver Jim?

1. RE: dlink dfe538tx driver
lbyard Oct-01-01 03:34 PM
In response to message 0

First remove the adapter in Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Device Manager or Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network, Configuration. If there are multiple instances of the driver, remove them as well. Using the Windows Explorer, determine what directory on the floppy the appropriate drivers are located. When Windows can’t find a driver, browse to that directory or type it into the box. If it can’t find it there, browse to the Win98 directory on the Windows CD or to location where the Windows cab files are located on your hard disk drive, it they are on the hard disk drive. They are usually located in C:\windows\options\cabs for Windows 9x and C:\Windows\options\install for Windows Me. Do not skip any files; they are somewhere.

Yup, boot to safe mode, remove all NIC drivers from device manager, then restart. When prompted, install new driver.
The "security catalog" simply means the driver isn't approved by MS, but who cares?
You shouldn't need the XP disk, but if you're running XP, how come you don't have a disk?
If the driver doesn't install properly, no worries, go back in to device manager, select the NIC, properties, and "roll back" the driver.
