Missing D: drive
Hi there,
I've noticed since installing windows xp pro on my main machine that my optical drives have been shifted down a drive letter (now e and f) and d has completely disappeared. Its not a problem I was just wondering if you guys know why this has happened and if anyone else has noticed this? cheers! Michael. |

XP will move things where needed.
From there, you can move them where you want them. Go into Admin tools, computer management, disk management, right click the drive in the right hand pane, and change whatever you want. I like to make CD-ROM's "R" for Reader, DVD, as "V", and burners "W" for Writer. That way if you ever add or remove any other devices/partitions, their drive letters never change. |

Hi there,
Thanks for the replies. Didn't know you could change the drive letters but I have done now and it has worked. Thanks again ![]() ps. I considered the numbering method that reboot has but decided to use the conventional d and e as I'd likely forget what I'd called them

Doesn't matter if you remember, as long as the computer remembers.

Maybe so but when accessing a drive I go to Start > Run and type the drive letter instead of going to My Computer.
Its just a thing I'm so used to doing. |
