fqpissed Missing or Corrupted

My monitor shows the following message: "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM"

It also suggested that I boot with the WinXP CD and use the repair console. I tried it but all I got was a c:\ prompt and I had no idea what to do next.

Does anyone know an alternate method?

This should help.

P.S. The warning doesn't link, it's a printable version. The warning states that if the Repair option doesn't show up that you will lose all your data if you continue with a regular install.

Thanks for the info.

I got up to Item 5 and could not proceed because the XP installation wasn't listed. I assume this is due to the fact that my windows/system32/config/system file is corrupted.

It did list the hard drive. I've been here before and what it does is install a second operating system without all the old settings.
