Unhappy Guest relatives....

They're here !
All I want them to do is check their e-mail and find directions, theater times, movie times, outdoor exhibit times and museums, etc .
I'm setting up a guest account on the comp and the bios is PW protectected.
Anything else to keep the clueless who think "AV slows down a computer" out of trouble( they're well meaning, just dumb ) ?
After last summer I no longer believe that the clueless can't wreak havoc, I just want to limit it.
This is a one comp household so they'll have to use it ( yes I'm backing up ).
All help needed by May 10.

wow, aren't we a little paranoid? i mean, worrying about BIOS protection??? I highly doubt they'll screw up any Pre-Boot stuff (but who knows if they did before?). Once the OS is loaded and they are in Windows, just don't worry about system files and all that. I would just do a precautionary system restore after they leave if you are that worried.

He's NOT paranoid. My mother-in law is constantly messing up her comp in ways I could never have possibly imagined. I'm there on a weekly basis cleaning up after her latest "accident".

Dude, whatever you have to do, do it. Just set up their account to limit them from using anything but IE, and you should be good.

Actually, now that I think of it, wouldn't the Guest account be perfect for this?

I know what you mean Pam, I have some friends that I hate to see drive up. By the time they have left the computers are a mess, I just hate to be rude and say off limits.

With BIOS passy, Guest Account On and with Anti V. What else do you need? Hmm? how about the AdAdware? If it's done you can sleep tight PAM. Let them use it, but do think they can't read your files via Microsoft Explorer or clicking your Drive C though. hehehe

You're right about Ad-Aware, I'll download it this evening.
I'm not being paranoid, they're great relatives and friends but they're he** on computers.
No attempt to educate gets through and the fact that they don't know what they're doing never stops them.
