won't go away!

Two things that are really pissing me off:

1. At windows startup, I get a "creative labs" splash screen (which makes noise, I might add). I've tried removing it from startup, I tried msconfig, and I tried unchecking any options in Creative Playcenter. How do I get rid of it?

2. Mobsync.exe, regardless of how many times I uncheck it in msconfig, always comes back. How do I get rid of it?

Thanks

cant help with #1 but to get rid of Mobsync.exe

run the program "Synchronise" from your "Start/Program/Accessories Menu. Select setup, and uncheck the synchronisation options, then deselect the option to synchronise your home page. From explorer select Tools/Folder Options/Offline Files: deselect the "Enable Offline Files" option. When you reboot you will find the programme is no longer running by default. You can also remove optional components from your Windows 2000 installation that are not shown in the Add/Remove Programmes

Thanks Zaney,

Does anyone know what I can do about the Creative Labs startup splash screen?

Thanks.

I use a little program called Startup Cop, I got from pcmagizine.com. You can disable or remove any startup item you wan't to.

The thing is, I can't find it in startup. I also used msconfig and it's not there. Once the splash screen loads, it disappears and there's no trace of it: no service, nothing.

Anybody?

On a recent PC I put together I installed a SB Audigy and installed all the extra software by mistake (I only wanted to install the drivers). When I rebooted, the Creative Labs splash screen popped up and I saw that the control panel and other software was installed.

Since the Creative Labs Audigy software is sort of flakey, I uninstalled them and just left the drivers. When I rebooted the system the second time, the splash screen didn't show up.

If you want to keep the control panel and all the extra stuff, I don't know how you would get rid of the splash screen.

Thanks, Cricket. Uninstalling it worked.

Two more things in startup that I have questions about:

1. qttask which has the path "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe -atboottime"
I tried going into quicktime and unchecking any startup options, but every time I uncheck qttask in msconfig, it comes back when I restart. I can't uninstall Quicktime because it's a necesity. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this in the startup?

2. Also in the msconfig startup is NvCpl. Does anyone know what this is and can I get rid of it?

QTtask can be removed.
Open regedit, naviagate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Run
Delete the qttask.exe entry.
NvCpl is the Nvidia control panel applet. Leave it, it does no damage.

It's a Reminder to register the Creative Sound Blaster Live! card.
Either register, or delete it.

Are you sure? I think "reg" might mean "registry", cause I went to delete Updreg.exe out of my C:\WINNT folder and I noticed the icon was a little picture of registry blocks. I'm just a little hesitant to delete anything having to do with the registry.

It's not, it's for Creative. Either delete it or register.
They "trick" you into keeping it by using the "registry blocks" icon.
If you're totally paraniod, make a restore point, and then remove it. If everything fails, restore.

actually, if you'll read the documentation that came with the soundcard, they tell you how to stop the splash screen from loading, I just can't remember how sitting here. It worked for me though.

With any Creative sound card, you will do yourself a big favor if you only install the drivers and nothing else. All the other stuff can cause problems and just duplicates exisiting programs that come with windows.
