Virus and Firewall Preferences
Hello Everyone, I've some questions on security for my computer. I just put in XP Pro I used to have Me w/XP Home upgrade. The system was pretty choppy and seemed slow. I use Aol broadband and was using norton systemworks and firewall for antivirus. I've read some conflicting reports on compatibilitywith XP and norton when I ran a compatibility check on previous the only thing that they recommended not to use was disk doctor. I took that out and it seemed to work of a few years. Then I ran into a trojan which corputed my Registry so I did a complete reinstall. Wrote 0's etc. was never the same. So that brings me to where I am now so if anyone can give thier insight on a good working antivirus & firewall. Also can I install my upgrade on another computer I own? Microsoft registration and all.
Your help would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris |

I like sygate for a terrific firewall! it blocks everything and you can of course manually override apps etc.

xp has a built in firewall, no you may not install it on another computer, ( you can but it won't work, activate )
firewall is not a anti virus |

Bailey if I read his post correctly the XP upgrade isn't currently being used as I was replaced with XP Pro. If I did read correctly, couldn't he then use the XP upgrade on another computer.

Well what is it? If I can't use it Microsoft has really got us by the shorts. On the antivirus I would like a dependable soft ware that won't conflict with XP a fire wall is a plus. Thanks for your suggestions so far. What do you guys use?

Avast is awsome as well http://www.avast.com/ and they have a free version as well, For a software firewall I like Zone Alarm Pro http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp they too offer a free download but I prefer the Pro over the free version.

HI From Texas !
Ever since Windows XP I have been using for my fire wall--" Zone Alarm"--- Now as far as my anti-virus I use " AGV 6.0 "---------------These two things fun in XP-'BEAUTIFULLY' !!. I still can't believe how those two work with XP so well. With AVG it has a pop up box (when clicked). There you will find a tab update file. You can check every day to see of there is a virus update for the latest virus. If there is a new up date, AVG will start downloading it. After the download is complete, it will automaticly install. The good thing about it is that you DO NOT have to restart your computer. You will see it updating on your screen. It will stop by itself and it is through.------ I cant say enough about Zone Alarm , it to also runs in the background as your firewall. Both have a Icon that sits in your tray. Both start up with your computer. Listen---- The great thing about this is----- IT IS ALL FREE ! ! ! P.S.: If you want it, you can go to the search engine I use (you can use your own). Go to the Google search engine------ type in AVG that should bring up their page which is for the Anti-virus to download--------Then for your firewall, type in Zone Alarm to download |
