An idot friend installed windows xp home and prof. on my computer. Now when it loads I have to choose which windows to load on start up. How do I remove the windows home version without loosing all my other files?

To remove the selection screen, right click on my computer, go to advanced, startup and recovery, and settings. You might want to manually edit the file to remove it, I don't see a remove option. It's simple, find the line with the OS you wish to delete, and the delete that line, first making a note of which directory it's installed in. The directory is the last part before the equal sign. Then, delete that directory.

the price of the two xp operating systems are so high that I dought they are both leagle ones, so on that basis I would recomemde that you erase the hard drive and only install the one you have the liceness for.

Are they installed on the same partition or different partitions?

Actually I do own home edition that came with my computer and he bought prof. I fixed the problem by following the first post to an extent. It had an option in the start up options to jsut dissable the option to choose which OS to load. I do still have them both on my computer but at least it doesnt try and load them both any more.

you can try Run... > type "msconfig" and hit enter. Then select BOOT.INI (tab) and then select the correct line you want as default. There are some other things in there to monkey with as well.
