Message I have never seen before
My grandpa has a laptop with win xp on it and he just called me to see if I knew how to fix this. Heres the message he gets right after initial Dell screen but before windows starts loading:
"The last attempt to restart the system from the previous location failed. Attempt to restart again. Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu. Continue with system restart." He gets this everytime he tries to restart and he cant get past it. At first it looks like a virus, but maybe not. Anyone ever seen this before or know what to do? Also tried having him push F8 to get a safe boot. He can push F2 and get the bios setup screen. |

sounds like he lost either his drive or the boot info, can you see the drive in the bios? will it boot/read his XP disc? is it still under warranty?

Yeah im heading over there tomorrow, so Ill know more then. I'll have to check the bios myself. And it is still under warranty.

I think this sounds like viral activity myself, either that or the boot sector of the HD is corrupt.
Try a repair of XP by booting from the CD.
