Check your autoexec.bat file for an entry that says: sysedit
If you see that line in there, erase it and that will stop it... Also check in Programs>Startup and see if thats how it's getting in there and delete it...

Ok, did check out autoexec.bat, but did not find the command of "sysedit' of any sort.

Any other spot I should check of these mysterious , system configuration editors.

Didn't know I need to be like 'Sherlock Homes' the great detective to be in the IT line
Though I am a fan of him. I love how he handle 'stress', he would play his violin, and drown his troubles......
Unfortunaltely I don't have the genes of a musician......

Another place to look would be with regedit: look in on the key
HKEY Local Machine/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run

If for some reason sysconfig is in there, you would see those configuration folders on startup. Though why they would be there is a real puzzle. I've never heard of this one before.

Windows makes a copy of your Registry after successful boots, but you might want to make an extra backup copy if you decide to delete the key/value in Run for sysconfig.

Since it's such strange behavior, it would make sense to scan with an up-to-date antivirus scanner (you could always use HouseCall online if you need an up-to-the-minute updated scanner: http://www.trendmicro.com -->free online tools)

Kt had you check in on the Startup folder on your Start/Programs menu - sometimes kids drag shortcuts in there with the touchpads on notebooks & all sorts of funny things run at startup.

[. . . and, on the humorous side, one of Microsoft's error reporting tools is called "Dr. Watson", and it's icon does somewhat resemble Mr. Holmes' famous sidekick listening carefully with a stethoscope . . . I can't remember at the moment if Dr. Watson is in Windows 95 or not, but he is in the MS System Information toolset in Windows 98]

Best of luck
. . . Gary

[p.s. ...just checked over at pacs-portals startup list, and it does appear that some viruses run sysconfig lookalikes at startup. You can check the list with sysconfig in it at http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup.../startup_s.php ]

Hi GaryRouth, good to see you since your last rescue

I actually encounter the case of the mysterious 'pop up System editors at startup' twice so far. The first -I thought I could ignore and live with it, until I met the second , where my boss was using ! Thought i could I get away with the first, but I guess this bug finally caught up with me, no way out

mm.......... didn't quite check the start-up programs.

I rushed over to my boss computer and check......mmm there's this epson printer status monitor sticking there, which I have replaced with a Lemark Z11 printer, prime suspect, I delete it.

Then i check the registries to see anything suspicious under the 'run' , didn't find anything fishy.

Then I reboot the computer, it hung. So I did a reset, finally the windows desktop comes up, and GOD !!! the mysterious 'system configurations editors' didn't show up !

Then I restart the computer just to be sure, and indeed the case of the mysterious 'system configuration editors ' are put to rest .

Thanks Ktkendall and GaryRouth for healing torch I am pleased with your professionism..

Oh , almost forget about the Dr. Watson, it's not in windows 95. I am aware it's in Windows NT 4.
Ah...Dr. Watson, actually I almost forgot he was the one who wrote and record the Sherlock Homes adventures. But I don't see any more of their shows these days... sure miss them.
