Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced
I've been getting this message a lot:
"Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files." I then did an upgrade reinstalling my system which fixed everything though some time afterward it happaned again. I then used the repair tool and that didn't help permanently either. I then used the sfc/scannow function which is supposed to replace all corrupted files. The files were fixed but a short time later they become corrupted again. Why does this keep on happening? I then used the Event Viewer to see what files were fixed and below is the result of some of the things that were fixed. Does anyone see any pattern of what is going on. Windows file protection scan system file c:\winnt\upwizun.exe has a bad signature and was restored to maintain system stability. c:\winnt\system32\odbcconf.exe has a bad signature and was restored.... c:\winnt\system32\odbdcad32.exe has a bad signature and was restored.... c:\winnt\system32\msdxm.ocx has a bad signature and was restored..... c:\winnt\system32\twunk_32.exe has a bad signature and was restored... c:\winnt\system32\sysocmgr.exe has a bad signature and was restored... |

Have you recently installed new software on your computer? I know for a fact that some programs when you install them offer a new version of a windows program. Typicaly nero burning rom has a new version of twunk_32.exe but othe rthan that i can only think that what your problem is, is a program installed. If your running Windows Xp trying to roll back the driver. you know take back to an earilier version of the file

Scan your system with updated virus definitions.
Also scan your system for spyware and trojans. Clean out your temp folders. Cricket

Yes, yes, I installed new software and I install new software all the time. I think you're right. In fact, I think the last two I installed was the AVG antivirus program and DriveImage and after I installed them is when things started going bad. I haven't connected my laptop to my ISP yet until I make some kind of backup image so I'm pretty sure I haven't picked up any viruses.
It doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Why would software programmers reprogram windows files like twunk_32.exe into the Windows 2000 system files when it is clear as day that it is going to screw up your whole system. Are they that stupid? But even if parts of the windows system was usurped by installing software programs, sfc/scannow appears to reinstall the default Windows files as noted in the Event Viewer and by my finding the Help dialog box and System tools functions again. Yet, it appears that just running the newly installed software programs corrupts those files again. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what it appears to be. Last edited by Harry; 05-12-2003 at 01:12 PM. |
