Smile World Record

I beilve i have broken a record here! I don't think that anyone will belive this but its true this actualy happened. I installed Windows XP Professional on my computer at home and upon the opening boot you know that first boot into your brand new operating system. Windows explorer crashed after 3 minutes of operation. IS there any reason why this would do this? It didn't cause my cpomputer any harm but it was very annoyying i mean come on.... your first boot and you only about 3 minutes into the whole thing and windows explorer crashes. Has anyone else had windows Xp Pro pull some psychotic thing? I also found out 2 things reguarding XP which im sure almost every one knows about. IF you have to improperly shutdown windows you dont see that stupid Scandisk screen upon startup. And also i have never had windows blue screen on me. So there for i assumed that windows XP never had a blue screen. Anyone else who has had a weird but funny or scary windows XP problem post it here i would love to see it

In order to actually help you there RenamonXP, we need a bit more info, specifically what type of PC, giv what specs that you can and did you do a clean reformat install of XP or upgrade, if upgrade than from what??? Also check your event viewer in XP and you should see some system event errors that coincide with the times that your having to crash and it may give you a clue...

When you say "crash", what do you mean? Did the system just freeze up, stop with an error message or did it reboot? If it gave you an error message, what was the exact wording?

Post your specs and list the parts by name of manufacturer and model. Power supply too.

And what kind of temps are you getting?

I'll bet it has not one single little thing to do with Windows.
I'll bet it has something to do with your hardware configuration.

It's kind of funny, I used to have a system where right after you install Windows 2000, explorer would crash shortly after too. Installing Service Pack 1 (the only out at that time) solved the problem. Have you got SP1 installed for XP? HTH

Ok people. Sorry i wasnt detailed in what i had stated. Im am Running XP Professional and it didnt have xp1 installed. When i did a clean install of it on my system a first boot where set all of your program settings... Well after it showed the welcome to windows screen everything loaded up and then a windows explorer window poped up. It clearly stated that windows needed to end an unresponsive program which was EXPLORER.exe I clicked close and the base of windows collapsed (you know where your windows bar disappears and all of your icons go away next to the clock. I was completely stunned at this. I was just wondering if it was something i did or something my crappy computer did? I will post my system specs as soon as they are done refreshing here. I will stick it in my next post within about 15 minutes.

This might be that rare instance where, assuming you don't have any critical data on the harddrive, you try reformating and reloading. If you can, you should use a different disk, just in case the problem is a damaged XP disk.

First of all, XP PRO DOES crash sometimes. Ive also received a blue screen of death. As for the explorer.exe problem you can just get a new one from another install. That way you dont have to reformat and do everything again. If you know someone with XP just copy the explorer.exe from their C:/ drive onto a disk and then into your WINDOWS folder.

You can call it EXPLORER2.EXE, that way your auto correct wont fix it. I'll finish these directions if you want to use them. Just post a response. They're actually very easy (but long).

XP Pro crashes, but always from an external source.
Bad software.
Bad drivers.
Bad hardware.
