Win98 to Win98SE
Confused-
If I install all of the service packs and upgrades from microsoft.com, will my Win98 now be Win98SE? |

Nope. 98SE has ICS, and that's not included in any service packs/upgrades...BUT... it will be as close as you can get without the ICS.

tranman,
The only thing you won't have is ICS or Internet Connection Sharing. Otherwise, you will have the same as WIN98se. Carl |

So an install disk that wants to read Win98SE or better will recognize it as such?

Depends on which component of Win98 2nd Ed. it needs. - What sort of program?
Truth is, you could simply try installing it, & if it acts up uninstall it. A few things aren't updated by the Service Packs, like System File Checker (whose 2nd Ed. version fixed a problems), . . . and I think the version of fdisk is different. There must be some core files that aren't changed as well, otherwise there wouldn't be the need for a version-specific emergency boot disk. Most programs don't care - it seems you've found one that does. . . . Gary |
