Can't install XP on new build.
Hi all,
I have tried several times to install XP home edition on a newly built computer. I am getting " Unable to copy hid.dll" and "Unable to copy hal.dll" messages during the file copying process. It gives an option to retry or skip, but retry doesn't help and if you skip the copy it warns that Windows may not install or work properly. When I tried skipping the copy the install crashes and I get the message that a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to the computer. These messges also have mentioned PAGE_FAULT_IN_NOPAGED_AREA and MEMORY_MANAGEMENT. Does anyone have a sugggestion on what I can do to resolve this? I have tried swapping hard drives and CD Roms. Thanks for all help and suggestions. |

Could be faulty RAM or bad copy of the CD. Try installing with only 1 stick of RAM. If same thing happens, switch it with another stick from another computer preferrably that you know works.

Go into BIOS setup.
Disable any anti-virus aka Trend chipaway. Set PNP OS Installed to NO. Make sure that ACPI is enabled. Try again. |

Thanks for the replies,
It was the memory that caused the problem. I will be more careful of the brand I purchase in the future. |
