Usually a sign of a dirty lens.
Try this: http://www.roxio.com/en/support/reco...rcdrmaint.html
You could also try ASPIcheck and ForceASPI from: http://aspi.radified.com/

It looks like all you need is a patch that brings Nero to the version that works with your burner.

Click here and choose the burner that is yours and make sure you have the correct version.

What motherboard is this? Just asking because there have been problems with CD-RWs on nForce2 motherboards using the drivers provided by nVidia. Just want to rule that out.

1. Bad burner.
2. If there is another optical drive on the same IDE cable it may have died. (Had this happen yesterday on my daughter's computer. Plextor quit working, turned out to be the CD_ROM drive that was on the slave plug had problems. An do not assume that the other drive is good because it can still read, her CD-ROM could read disks fine, but when I replaced it with a new one, the plextor started working normal)

ok...this might sound a bit weird....but even though i dont have an AMD chip or MOBO.....i read this somewhere.
it MIGHT be the drivers the MOBO asked you to install(it was on an MSI board). the drivers make the your machine recognise your HDD as a SCSI drive. the person whom wrote this article said that he had trouble burning. he says uninstall the divers.
heres the link.......

The ASPI layer is screwed.
Uninstall all burning programs.
Go into services.msc and disable the built in burning.
Restart, reinstall Nero, then see if it works.
If not, run ForceASPI again.
See if it works.

What exactly are you trying to burn?
A data disk, music disk, .iso image, what?

That's what I meant.
OK, you've got the ASPI layer installed.
Now, reinstall Nero, and get any update.
What burner do you have selected in Nero?
Did you select "Bundled" or what, during install?
Click Extras, Autodetect CDROM.

In Nero, full, not the Express.
Click on Extras..
Have you considered that the burner may be toast?
Does it READ CDR's ok?
Does it read multisession CDR's ok?
