cant delete picture file
I downloaded this picture file via kazaa (supposed to be of Harley Davison bike) but when I opened it the picture was actually a picture of a nearly nude young lady with a rather rude name to the picture. I thought no more of it other than someone's idea of a stupid joke, no harm I guess really, its not a pornographic picture, just a young lady nearly naked but its the title that is rather annoying and embarrassing. So I thought, no problem, just delete the darn thing.. didn't work a box comes saying" cannot delete, the filename is too long." It wont let me rename the picture says the same thing, filename too long cant rename.
same when I try to copy and drag to the recycle bin. wont let me. file name too long. Wont even let me move it to another folder. I tried just about everything I can think of but no success so far. The icon stays on my screen with the rude title to the picture. I cant change anything in the properties of the picture other than the attributes, so I ticked the "hidden" attribute so the file cannot now be seen on my computer, but this has really got me challenged, How do I delete the darn thing. so that its gone for good. The picture is not a bad picture, I am not a prude but the title is the thing that is upsetting. It only takes up 22kbs in size so thats not a problem but I would like to know how to get rid of it. Any ideas guys.

did you try to delete it using the kazza interface....you can right-click the file and select delete.
i guess you have tried the manual way by going to your shared folder. also check if the picture is write protected....but i guess you have done this also because u changed it to hidden. try holding shift and pressing delete(it will cause the file to not go to the recycle bin) if nothing works....this will. kazaa is laden with spyware. not to be an alarmist, but it could be possible the "picture" carries something else with it. I would recommend doing a scan with a program like adaware, and even a virus scan. I also would suggest that you consider uninstalling kazaa, downloading the "lite" version and using it, if you want a program like this. the lite version is much safer to run. another trick to remove a "stubborn" file is to try moving it to a new folder and deleting the whole new folder. hth |

I've had that happen with customers and have had to go as far as moving it to a new folder, rebooting to a command prompt, then deleting the entire folder.

Me too with undeletabe files I'd open a dos window (win XP) and delete it from there OR with windows 9x start in dos and delete it from there at the prompt plus I'd take dan's advice and uninstall " kazza " It maybe nice to have but I'v never heard anything good about then because of the spyware factor

Kazaalite has no spyware, just in case you wanted to keep using the familiar interface.
Here's how I delete those types in XP. Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the task manager, and END PROCESS on Explorer (from the processes tab). Click on File, Run, and type in: Command This opens a DOS box. Now you can navigate to the file, and delete it. Once done, hit C+A+D again, File, Run, and type in: Explorer Explorer will start back up and everything returns to normal. |
