Win2K WinXP peer2peer permissions

One windows 2000 pro machine
One windows XP Home Edition machine

Setup in a peer to peer environment. Sharing a printer from the 2000 machine as well as one folder. In the security tab for the shared printer, I tried adding the XP machine's user but when browsing the machine wasn't found. I can see both machines and access files via network places but not through the permissions tab.

On the XP, when logging off or rebooting the shared connection is lost and I have to re-enter the password to access the shared folder. The printer i have to re-install everytime.

What am i missing?

Thanks

Exclamation

Hi Scooby,
I have an almost identical setup. Main PC is Win2K and the other PC Xp-Pro...only difference is I don't use NetBEUI (ipresuming you have a true peer to peer setup)

How exactly is your network set up? Do you have a hub or crossover cable (as I have). This is not really all that important if the two machines can see each other but you should really be using TCP-IP....

For peer-to-peer make sure each machine is in the same workgroup so as shared resources can be accessed by all concerned.

For TCP-IP you just connect them as you described and set up what you want shared and what you don't.

Give us some more info on the setup!

Regards,

Declan (aka fredwest)

tip
if sharing drom 2k machine, make sure you have an account on the 2k box that has the exact same user name and password as the account logged on in the xp box...makes things much easier

hi guys sorry for the delay in replying.

The username issue might be the problem. I'm only using TCP/IP, workgroup is the same and using a hub.

I'll add the xp user to the 2k machine. that should do it but i'll let you know.

Thanks
