Time to shoot the messager
Ok, I know I can disable the messager in win2k. I know I don't need a 3rd party program to do so.
Does anyone have a link to the reading matterial that I can go over to shoot it out of the system and any links of info to optimalize win 2k to streamline it.

The following was originally posted by Reboot a while back. You will also find that you are looking for Messenger not Messager.
"Open Explorer, click on Tools, Folder Options, then the View tab. Put a tick in the "Display the contents of system folders". Click the radio button "Show hidden files and folders". Navigate to C:\windows\inf Open sysoc.inf in notepad, by right clicking it, select Open with, choose Notepad. Find the line that says: msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7 in the file and take out the word hide so the line would look like msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7 Close the file and save it. Now go to the Add and remove programs applet in the control panel and you will be able to uninstall windows messenger. Make sure to click on the add remove windows components button. Note: You will be able to uninstall other unneeded programs by removing hide from the sysoc.inf file as well, but be careful what you uninstall. " |

Go to Black Viper's site:
http://www.blkviper.com/WIN2K/servicecfg.htm Disable to your hearts content. Just remember what you did in case something doesn't run. I have 14 processes running at startup in 2k. |

Just be careful when you go through that list. I once accidentaly disabled the wrong one and ended up having problems. Also remember that some of these services depend upon one another, so disabling one might make something else not work. HTH
