Windows XP Problems!
I was downloading service pack 1 for XP and it was downloading the patches and files when the pc restarts itself and loads to the point where the xp logo is on the screen and automatically restarts again. I can't boot up with the CD becuase its not the full installation CD just the upgrade version. So I had to format and install 2000 pro. XP has only given me problems@!

I doubt if that's a problem with XP but rather a hardware problem, overheating, power supply, etc. I have the upgrade version and it is bootable,it just asks for your 98 or ME disk at a certain time.

No it's not a hardware problem, when I install Windows 2000 or 98SE it installs ok but XP doesn't. I did notice that when I put in the boot up disk of 98 it doesn't find a boot log or something like that so I can enter fdisk. I'm thinking it's becuase I have the partition set up in NTFS not FAT32. Also why can't I boot up with XP?

This may be a stupid question, but if I buy the upgrade of 2000pro or either XP version, it will boot and install as long as I have a 98 disk?

I don't have any experience with 2000Pro but my XP upgrade disc does.Make sure your BIOS is set to boot from CDROM first. Then you get a message "Press any key to boot from CD"

I have the XP upgrade Home Edition and I just tried it again and it boots from the CD. Perhaps your CD is bad. Did you get it from a legitimate source? I saw a copy once that would not boot.

Try putting the CD in, open "My Computer" right click on the drive with the XP disk in,select "Explore." You should see several files, one is "Setup". Double clicking on that starts the setup program. The next screen gives you 4 options. "Install Windows XP, Install optional Windows Components, Perform Addittional Tasks, and Check System Compatability.

I know that what I was talking about is when XP would not boot up I couldn't boot directly from the CD because of some error of boot log not found or something like that.
