Hi all:
I'm using XP pro, recently I installed a self-extract file(one cd of visual studio.net)approximately 300 MB. when I extract to a folder, the extraction seemed to last forever. so I manually stopped it. OMG, That folder is about 3 GB big, I knew that's not right so i deleted that folder. but after deletion, I didnt gain any disk space back! then I tried system restore, it got worse I lost another 4 GB. wuts going on here? how can I find the "deleted file" and get back my disk space? pls help me, im going nuts. any comments is appreciated. |

Have you tried running disk cleanup? Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools

It's hard to tell what it is without seeing it but are you sure that you found the other file that got installed part of the way and then deleted it? Did you delete everything from the trash bin? Also, sometimes it's possible that things won't delete properly so you have to boot up in safe mode and delete from there.
I don't know if that program somehow changed your masterboot record partition size like through a virus but if it did, there is a good chance that you could use Partition Magic and resize the partition and get back the extra 8 gigs of space. Last edited by Harry; 05-19-2003 at 01:49 PM. |
