retreiving deleted outlook express folder

Hello there,

Someone in the office inadvertently deleted one of their folders in Outlook Express. The problem is they got a message saying that it would be permanently deleted (presumably as the recycle bin was full) but they still clicked yes for some reason.

If this was a normal file, then I would be able to undelete quite easily with ontrack or spinrite or something like that. However, because it is an email inbox, I don’t know where it goes after it is deleted. Would it be as simple as running a scan for recently deleted files and looking for the relevant .dbx file, or does outlook express change the files somehow when they are deleted.

Thanks in advance.

It might be autoarchived, the last time that Outlook backed itself up (or was backed up) you should be able to search your computer for Outlook.pst (press F3 when at the desktop)

Then you can import this back into Outlook, all should be OK (minus a couple of recent emails, so perhaps you could Export to someplace else before you import the old file)

Cheers,

Jim

Thanks Jim,

Problem is, this is outlook express and I dont think there is any similar feature there. Good thought though.

Cheers.

Matt,

Sorry, I haven't used Express in a long time now

Try tools, options, Maintenance and click "Store folder" button, perhaps you could copy this address into the run box, there may still be remnants of the deleted folder in your message store?

Worth a try,

Jim
