how much memory for win2k

At what point does extra memory become almost pointless in win 2k.

I have recently started using win2k at home and it is running good on my computer, 1.5 Ghz, 512 DDR 2100 ram, wondering If it would be good to drop another 256 meg of ram in?

I am doing allot of video and audio working to give you an idea of the load I am putting on my system.

i think it mainly will depend on what demanding apps you run. sounds like you are doing a lot so 256 more isn't a bad idea if you feel you could see a better improvement. Win2k isn't as demanding as WinXP in the memory department so 512 SHOULD be enough however more is always better. i think at 1 gb of RAM you have hit the ceiling...

It is said that Win 2000 performs best at 4 Gigs of RAM, but I guess it also depends on how much RAM your MOBO can handle.

I can attest to the fact that it ran perfectly on 384 MB of PC133 CL3 SDRAM (at home on this very same machine) and on 128 MB PC133 CL3 SDRAM (at the office, on a PIII 450).
If you have at least 128 MB of SDRAM or DDR SDRAm, I guarantee that you will have a perfectly stable, if slightly slow machine.

For a normal user, pretty much anything over 512 MB is overkill.

However, if you are doing something memory-intensive, like video editing or audio work, more won't hurt.

The best way to judge is to monitor memory and swap file usage when you are doing your audio and video work.

A gig is the sweet spot with 2K.

On my primary machine I went from 512 to 1024 and saw little improvement. With the price of ram so cheap, it cannot hurt to have more. As has been stated unless you are doing something like ripping dvds or video editing more than 512 will offer little improvment.
