unable to uninstall aol

Need some guidance. Somehow I had 2 downloads of aol 8.0 on my system. Uninstalled the newest version, but can't uninstall the other. Problem became apparent when my wife tried to load the program from her user screen. I can load it from mine, but neither wife nor daughter can load. All have admin capability. Tried restarts, ran reghealer after uninstall of first copy. Even tried to delete file from area of partitioned drive where it is located. Screen says cannot access. may be in use (not), or disk might be protected. During uninstall process, the uninstall just hangs up. No activity light on HDD either. Suggestions?

aol is a terrible havoc to one's system. it destroyed my sister's laptop HDD and the only way to restore was by reformatting it. This was years ago though so i dont know if AOL is still as repulsive as it used to be. Are you sure you unistalled the first AOL or just upgraded?

I'm sure. Even reinstalled and uninstalled again thinking the two would link together (?) No luck. The good was removed and the other one is still there. The error message is "Your main.idx file is damaged." I'm still searching

Solved the problem. Moved all files from that partition to another, and reformatted the partition w/aol on it. Then ran a search for aol and manually deleted all associated files from C:,restarted, ran reghealer, downloaded aol again, reset all users' shortcuts and it all seems to work now.
