locking up when shutting down

I am having problems with a computer running winnt. Upon shutting down it just locks up. In addition - outlook is very slow in responding. Any ideas?

What kind of background programs do you have running on your system?

Has it always done this or did it just start to happen? Did you install anything new recently?

What are your system specs?

Just recently ghosted machine - received as a donation. 300mhz Pentium II, 64mb, 2.11 Gigabytes usable hard drive
Running Office '97

Go into Norton Antivirus options and disable the "Scan Floppy on Shutdown" option.
