Check your system disk for USB controller drivers and then install.

The USB 2.0 card was installed by me. It was an IOGEAR card .The instructions said to install it boot up and windows would recognize it as new hardware. It worked great for a long time till I reloaded XP.

Sorry, i miss read that. When you say you "reloaded" Xp did you do a "repair" or did you do a reinstall on a clean drive?
If you just did a repair, try uninstalling the existing card drivers from the Device Manager and then reboot and see if XP will "find" the card and install new driver for it . |

Did you get drivers with the card when you bought it?

The instructions that came with the PCI card just said to put it in , connect the cables , then boot it up. Windows will recognize the new hardware. It did and it worked a long time till I reloaded XP.

This might be wrong; however xp does not support USB 2.0 until sp1 is installed. My understanding is that the device will work, however at the 1.1 speed until the update is applied.

XP doesn't support USB 2.0 until SP1 is installed only in the sense that XP doesn't have the drivers. I use a Belkin USB 2.0 card on my XP Home sys without SP1, and my USB 2.0 external drive runs great at USB 2.0 speed.
You should have received a CD containing the drivers when you bought your card. If not check mfg's site, or install SP1. |

IOGEAR sent me an E Mail with a driver attached. It works and now I'm happy. Thank you for your help.

That makes two of us. What I don't understand is that when I bought the card all you had to do was install it and boot up. In fact you can go to the web site and that is what the instrutions on the web site says. My XP is up to the latest including SP1a

FYI It's always a good idea to check the manufacturers web site for drivers and and other needed info. It can usually be found in the "support" section of the site.
Besides you always get the Newest drivers when you do it that way. Good luck! |
