drive letter assigning in 2000

i use win2000pro, and i just got me a second hd. now i havent had experience with more than 2 hd drive letters so i dont know what's the best solution.

now i have 1 60gb in 2 partitions (c and d), a dvdrom (e: ) and cdrw(f: )

hd is master on ide 1, cd's are on ide2
Now i want to setup my new 80gb with 2
(maybe 3) partitons. i have partition magic 8. how is the best to do this? hd's always before cd's? keep cd's to e and f?

Whatever works for U,, The only one disk managemet won't let U change is the one W2K is on.. As for as your optical drives too, remember if U have installed any programs that require the CD to be in to run the program and you later change the drive letter, when U try to run the program it won't be able to find the CD..
Do U know where to find disk management??

its in admin tools -> computer management right? I'm not in admin mode right now, have to change to go check.

so it might be wisest then to keep my cd drives to e and f (so that the link between programs and their cd doesnt get lost) . ill just make a new g and h partition for my second hd then.

thanks for helping me out

i set it up yesterday evening, and it went in a jiffy. i switched from 98 to 2k not so long ago and i must say this is one of the nice advantages of 2k. Didnt even need a reboot and it took less than a minute.

thanks for the help
