Switching from ACPI to APM in 2k
Without reinstalling 2k, how can you switch from ACPI to APM?
Gigabyte GA-5AX (rev 3) with a Ali V chipset isn't compatable with 2k in the ACPI mode that I just found out. It cuts the FSB down by 50% Neither M$, Gigabyte or Ali have anything on this that I could find, but I did find it in a Google search suggested by someone else: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...et%26rnum%3D28 |

Maybe you can do a repair, with acpi disabled in bios, apm selected in bios, and select the standard pc option after hitting f5 when startup asks for any scsi drivers to be loaded first.
I suppose one could change hals in device manager but that may be problematic. |

You should be able to do it in Device Manager, just update the driver and tell it you want to install the driver from a list or specific location then choose the option to pick the driver manually.

It can be done in device manager. Update the driver for computer to standard pc. When you restart, you may have to reinstall some or all drivers. You may have a problem with shutdown using standard pc. If so this is easy to fix.

Everything I have read on doing it that way says it doesn't work.
I have seen M$'s KB article on HAL's and did it that way. Seems to be ok now. Processor shows 500 MHz. Only thing is I now get a "green screen of shutdown" (as I call it) after the MB shuts down. I have to push the pwr button to shut off the PSU. |

That is what I was referring to in regard to shutdown problems. Go to device manager and have it show hidden devices; see if nt/apm legacy support is installed. If it is enable it; if not you will have to install and enable. Your computer will now shutdown normally.
Yes it does work the way I posted, I have done this numerous times. I do recommend a clean install with a standard hal, however if you do not want to reinstall the above mentioned procedure works also. |

No that isn't listed. I will install.
Two separate issues I just discovered. The USB ports are not listed in Device Manager! I don't see any place in the bios to disable them either. Also, the HDD's after spinning down, when something needs to access them they will spin up, then stop, spin up, then stop etc. Is that something to do with Pwr Mgnt?
