System Restore

When you use system restore, it puts back programs that you have unistalled into the add/remove programs list. Then when you go to remove them again, you can't, cause they are already gone!

"The system cannot find the file specified" or the like is the common error.

Can anyone recommend a program to get these entries off my add/remove list?

Thanks

Mrstirs,

Usually when a program has already been removed and you try to remove it a message will appear along the lines of "There was a problem removing this program, perhaps it has already been removed, would you like to remove its entry from your add/remove list?"

I'm guessing that you're not guessing this message!

You can try this to remove the entries

Run the Registry Editor (Start-->Run-->REGEDIT).

Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Uninstall, and remove any unwanted keys under "Uninstall."

HTH, Thanks,

Jim

It depends on the program - some of them say that, others just give errors.

I have a politics exam in an hour and a half, so perhaps I should study now and try REGEDIT later :P

Thanks!

jv16 Power Tools will let you easily remove programs from the Uninstall menu. It has a bunch of utilities that will clean up your registry.
