Set bios to boot from CD, boot from XP disk and XP will do the rest. Just follow the instructions.

Put in the XP disk and the machine should boot from it.

Ok if you have the retail windows xp disk just put it in... Forget about your recovery disk....

Once it loads it will give you the options to delete partitions... Just do it from there instead of using fdisk...

If you for some reason have to get into the Bios i think its F1, Press F1 when computer boots up...

After you first start the computer, and after it displays the info for the video card, look for some text that says something like 'press esc to enter setup' or F1 or the del key, hit that within a few seconds and you should be good.

Well I was told that in order to install XP.........you need to have like Win 98 or 2000 on your comp........and that it was an upgrade

If the windows xp cd is the upgrade version you have to have it installed if the computer is name brand becuase they will not give you an original cd but a restore cd...

if you have the orignal older version of windows (not restore cd) windows xp will ask you to insert the other version of windows so it can verify that you have an older version...

So you dont have to have it installed but just have the cd...

I hope that is clear...

Here's a somewhat off question. Do update CDs recognize a recovery CD as being the required operating system? I've never tried this. Just curious. Is there a win9x dir on a recovery Cd to point it to?

Than you are one in a million because its not supposed to do that. I have never encountered that or know of anyone that has been able to do this.

I believe on that type of system there are some files left on the HDD so the Restore Disk will boot. I would assume this would be recognizable by the XP Upgrade as a previous OS.
Does this make sense?
