You confused me with the term "Full Upgrade CD". If it is win98 Second Edition Upgrade, then just run it in Windows.

If it's a full win98SE install, you should be able to install right over the top of your present OS. I would do it in dos (use a startup disk). Also you'll have to rename win.com. To do this: at the C: prompt, type "ren win.com win.old"

If you don't do this, the install program will tell you cannot use the win98SE disk because your computer already has an operating system.

Boot using a win98 startup disk and enable cdrom support. It will leave you at the A: prompt.

1. switch to the C: drive and at the C: prompt, type "ren win.com win.old" - without the quotes of course. This will "rename" win.com so as not to cause an install error.

2. insert the Win98SE CD in the cdrom. (being you've started using a "startup disk", your CD will be the E: drive) - I'm assuming your drive is not partitioned. If it is, determine the correct drive letter.

3. type e:\setup.exe and follow the setup prompts.

. . . and, just an extra detail: when prompted for the directory to install Windows to, choose "Other" and type in C:\Windows [Windows will suggest C:\Windows.000]

It will not format your drive. It will install SE over what you have in the same manner that the SE Update disk would.

Good point Gary... it may or may not suggest a different folder (I've seen both), but Rodney, make SURE you re-install in C:\Windows and no other folder.
