I have a relative (it's not me, really!) that has really come up with a good one... She is unable to log on to Windows in any capacity.
Stay with me on this one.... I think it all started when she tried to change the password at the log in screen. I didn't know that such a thing was possible. I always thought that was handled under "user profiles". I don't see how she could have tumbled on to that though, as she only has a rudimentary knowledge of how to operate a computer in the first place.... Although it's been said that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. Can anybody shed some light on this? Last edited by SKIPART; 06-02-2003 at 06:54 PM. |

Lol, this situations brings a quote to mind: "It is impossible to make something foolproof because fools are so ingenious." --unknown
I think if you hit Ctrl+Alt+Del during a windows session, there's an option there to change your password.

Well, that's definitely true... The problem is getting past the log-in screen in order to do anything about it.

Does she know the administrator password? With any luck, it might just be blank.

Then log in as administrator and change the user password to whatever you want. Right click My Computer, Manage, Users and Groups, Users.

It won't allow log in.... keep getting message saying that "Unable to log in to Windows.... Please check domain & password" or words to that effect.

When in doubt.... Punt!
I just put the offending HD in my computer, copied, saved & burned "keeper files". Then did FDISK + reinstall OS... there wasn't that much on the HD anyway. Sometimes that's the only way to go. |
