XP and Norton Hang
Cannot figure this out.
My computer used to be part of a business LAN through which it connected to the ether (ie internet). Now, I use a PPPoE connection on DSL. I absolutely loathe PPPoE, but I had no choice. The problem is, I am using Corporate Norton Antivirus and it now takes minutes to load. It is not necessarily the real time virus scanner, either. When I contrasted processes before and after it loads to see what the hold up is, I found "defwatch", "rtvscan" and "alg" to be the only changes. The first two are Norton property. I think the third is one of those silly XP required processes, right? Anyway, I cannot figure out if it is looking for the internet and going into network withdrawl since it is not part of it anymore, or whether it is the PPPoE connection, or what. It is a tough problem. I hope someone can at least give a little suggestion. |
