Windows XP changes required
With all the changes and improvements that came with Windows XP.... I feel they [continue] to miss a number of items that need to be changed. Or maybe there is a fix to the following that I don't know about?
o Drive Letter names: sure would be nice to give a drive a name and not just a letter [A...C....E]. Any way to do this? o The registry: if I want to tranfer a program from one computer to another, but don't have the install disk.... is there a way to transfer the program perfernces and such [like with unix or Mac OS]? o If I copy 1000 files and one is flawed, windows stops the copying process, rather than just telling me there is a flawed file. Is there a way around this? o Is there a way to open programs in their own resolution in each window [aka the Amiga]. I wonder if this could be done on the PC? o Is there a good multiple desktop program for Windows XP? I know about the unix version, but I hope to find one like the BeOS system, where each desktop can be set at its own resolution. This should be possible since I ran this on a standard PC. Is there such a third party program? |

Item 3, copying files - you can use xcopy at a command prompt with /C to continue on errors.

I have my C: drive named MAINDISK and when I had a second hardrive in this PC, I named it BKPDISK. I suppose what U mean is eliminate the letter naming schemes and totally replace with custom names, but if U really think about that, it would be a nightmare for installing the OS...

It's probably something you can easily do in the registry, but there is no telling how that may or may not effect programs you have and will install.

You can name your drives anything you want.
Open Explorer, right click, select rename. |
