how can my picture be saved
don't know if this is the right place but!
i gave my daughter a dell with windows 95,don't really know any specks, she wants to upgrade so she can use her digital camera which is not compatable with 95.she has a lot of pictures on hd in my pictures that she wants to save, she doesn't have a cdrw, she lives about 350 miles away so is impossable for me to help.i have never used an upgrade, will that save her pictures or is there a way?i'm not sure which os she is upgrading to but i think 98se would be best since the computer probably doesn't have much memory.she is not real familar with computers so anything to complicated she couldn't do.any help would be appreciated.

If she gets a 95 to 98 Upgrade cd, all she has to do is pop it in and go go go. BUT, wouldn't suggest letting "her" do it. Tell he to find a friend to help.

IT will not delet the pic but the risk is still there as you have said the computer is kinda of a old so the risk of upgrading going corrupted or haywire is there so why take the risk.

if she has some one to help with the upgrade, could this person install a cdburner? they are so inexpensive these days, it might be a good idea (especially if she is going to continue loading pictures to her hard drive) to have one installed....

dan,she doesn't have a cd burner and only one slot,i thought of that and suggested she take out the cd an replace it with a burner and back up her pictures before upgrading,i think that is what she is going to do if she can get her helper to do that, her husband is afraid to touch the computer.

Why not upload the picures to a place like http://www.webshots.com, tp stpre them, or http://www.shutterfly.com and get actual copies of the pictures.... to be safe, and if that doesn't cover all the pictures, she can e-mail them to you or her self, and then just save them to either the hdd again, or to a maschine with a CDRW. Otherwise, the suggstions above are excellent. Upgrading doesn't erase data off teh hdd, just upgrades the OS.
Hope That Helps -Joe |
