Password login box in ME always comes up
I know this has been covered in here before but I have just installed ME on my other computer and I get the password login box come up every time I boot up.
I have tried all the usual things control panel/passwords and making sure all users use the same preferences on the computer and dial up networking is set to "PPP internet. Windows/2000/NT Windows ME" Have also done a search for PWL files but nothing comes up, so I am up against a brick wall now. What else can I do to get rid of this annoying thing. It informs me that if I dont enter a password and just go ahead and clik cancel I wont get the box next time, but I always do. Whats the next step guys. I have always been able to get rid of it by deleting all PWL files in previous installations but when I do the search, nothing comes up with that extension. Over to you guys.

You set the logon to Windows Logon from Client for MS Networks?

I know this works for 98se but im not sure about ME. A surefire way to get rid of it is to go through the registry. Click Start, Run, type regedit hit enter. In the left pane click the folder that says HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, when it expands click the folder that says Network, next click logon, and then delete all the entries in the right pane. You should see something like this:
username="your user name" PrimaryProvider="Microsoft Network" LMLogon=hex:00,00,00,00 Once you delete those restart windows and you'll will get the prompt asking for your new username and password. Put in a username but not a password and then hit OK. The next time you start windows it will skip the login. |
