Run at startup...

Hi,

I attach an image I just grabbed from my regedit and task manager screen

COM_~1.EXE is worrying me

What is it? And should it be running?

Cheers

Do you have an external modem or other device connected to a serial port? Are you on dialup? If you do then this is probably normal.

You may be using third party drivers (came with disk) rather than Microsoft's default drivers for whatever PCI device is in the COM 1 Port.

OK, I've had XP and everything the same for maybe a year now, I know what was originally in my Task Manager current processes box and I know that COM_~1.exe wasn't!

I am only using third party drivers for my video card as far as I'm aware

Oh, yes I do have an external modem on COM1 but this has only recently appeared in my current processes box. Also, why COM+? I know that's something completely different, and I'm sure I haven't enabled it

Thanks,

Jim

Send a message via Yahoo to toomyg
Did you try searching for this strange file on your HD and see what it's for ?

Well, the easiest thing would be to run a virus scan and simply remove that value from the local_machine/run key. If things fail to work, put it back; otherwise, one less prog stealing resources.
