My system is XP compatible but should I expect many problems?

Deja Vu?
Always better to do a fresh install. If you can backup your data, that's the way to go. If you must do an upgrade, be prepared for stuff in ME that won't work in XP, or won't upgrade properly. You can do a fresh install with the upgrade disk, just set the computer to boot from CDROM first, and put in the disk. Hit any key when prompted, and select NEW INSTALL from the options. You will later be prompted to insert your ME disk as proof of ownership, but no files will be used from it. |

When I first bought XP home upgrade edition, I just went the upgrade from WinME route and it was bad, so I reformatted drive fresh with NTFS and did clean install of XP, and as staded above as long as You have your full version WinME disk you CAN do full install from the XP upgrade version disk.. I would copy anything I wanted to save to cdrw and do clean install with NTFS.....

This is basically the question I wanted to ask, but with Win98se. I buy the XP HOME upgrade edition, but I CAN do a clean install on a new HDD, is that correct? Just use the original disk as proof of purchase? Or is 98se too old to be considered as upgrading to XP?
Sorry for butting in, Mur. Thanks all for any replies. |

Kov-Ice you shouldn't have a problem doing a clean install with a Win98SE disk since it is one of the OSs that can be upgraded to WinXP.
Mur, the few times that I've done a upgrade from ME to XP there were problems. Everything from system hangs during the upgrade process to just generally unstable systems. A clean install is the way to go. Last edited by Boone; 06-07-2003 at 02:04 AM. |
