XP Less performance more slowdown

I think XP's most redeeming quality is the way it loads drivers fom the XP disc. So you dont have all thes drivers to load. The thing I miss about 98SE is msconfig! Im either going to have to add memory or find a way to shut down all this crap thats running and hogging resources. It may be time to format and bring back 98Se! Also the constant Updates are getting old!

Are you using the system in your specs? If so I wouldnt think it would be slow. I have a PIII with 256 in ram with onboard Graphics Card and Windows XP runs just fine.

Oh yeah windows xp does have msconfig

Your system specs in the sig should run very well indeed on XP. Perhaps there is some misconfiguration? XP should run as fast or faster than 98/ME.
Disabling certain services can result in some function you desire being functional no longer. If I set up your system, I would only disable the dangerous services, such as Remote Registry, BITS, Universal Plug and Play, SSDP Discovery Service, Remote Desktop, Portable Media Serial Number, Netmeeting, and maybe one or two more. These are not needed for XP to run well, but you'll see rants in event viewer from the system about services unable to start. Services that are not being used will be paged to disk, just like an app that you drop to the taskbar, after some set time. They will not take any cpu time or mem in such a case.

Something like that, yeah.
