Not the hard drive

First I was sure that my hard drive was broken, but when I removed the old one and connected another hard drive, the same error text was displayed on the screen. So...

I suppose the problem is on the mother board.

I have the same problem with a Dell 2350 which I have in the shop now. Did you ever find out exactly what kernel_data_inpage_error is all about?

I ended up installing Mellenium on the laptop with no problems and gave up the XP install. The laptop originally had win 98 on it so evidently there was something on the motherboard that XP didnt like because I swapped the HD and got the exact same error. The 2350 you are working on had XP on it originally didnt it? Might be a long shot but I would try swapping out the memory and try installing it because I have seen some really wierd stuff with XP installs and bad memory sticks.....
