i need to hack into my win xp machine from my win 2000 machine HELP!

heres my situation:
my computer locked up and i had to shut it down by holding the power button. it booted up fine but when it gets to the main screen, half the task bar is missing (start shows up, along with my custom toolbars but nothing else like the quick launch icons). i cant access the start menu by mouse or keyboard. the mouse functions but i cant open any files or folders. this would normally happen if there was a power surge and the comp shut down incorrectly, and normally i would just unplug any USB cords, reboot and it worked fine. now that does nothing. i tried going back to the last known working config (this worked in the past) but when i go to enter my password the keyboard wont work and im stuck. soooooooo...i either need to fix that comp which is the best plan, but if i can i need to get into it to backup my files.
its a winxp machine, and right now im on my server running win2k, theyre int he same room connected by a linksys befsr41 router. i wish ih ad made my design folder on my personal machine sharable but i didnt, so if anyone knows how i can hack into it, id appreciate it, thanks.

Try removing the hard drive and slaving it into the server.

Just make sure your virus definitions are up to date before hooking it up to the other system.
