The pro version includes support for dual cpus, and has built in backup support, and some added security features, like more restrictive user class than home does, if you decide to restrict users. It also allows remote desktop. There are other diffs. I like it.

XP Home is a gutted version of XP Pro. Question> Would you buy a car that after it was built they went in and removed a bunch of stuff?

XP Pro supports 4Gb of ram and I'm sure Home support 4Gb as well.

Some more differences

I wouldn't say that Home is a "gutted" version of Pro... you can bet that everything is there, just turned off and you need to know how to turn it on. I know with Win2K Pro, there is a way to turn it into Server, which means the "guts" are there....I don't see why XP would be any different.

XP Pro also allows you to log into a Domain, XP Home doesn't.

and with Tweak XP (the first version) that can be done.

Thats why they removed it I believe and then re-released a newer version that removed that option.

Another difference (for those who need it):

XP Pro allows you to connect to Terminal Services without having to purchase a Terminal Services Client Access License.
