Apm / Acpi ...
Hi,
Formatted my brother's hard drive the other day, re-installed Windows 2000 and his PC has lost the ability for me to press the power button and have the PC shut down and then turn off or go Start --> Shutdown and have the PC shutdown and turn off So basically it's not using the newer ATX feature APM or ACPI (I forget what it's called) How do I turn this back on? Before the reformat it was working just fine, I haven't changed any BIOS settings and there's nothing about APM in Power options in Control Panel What gives? Thanks,

it should be under the manage option in mycomputer(right click). the go to device manger, then click Computer then right click it and select update driver. u should then be able to select "install the driver from a specific location" and the chose the driver manually. it should be there under ACPI.

Control panel>power options>advanced is where you set what you want the computer to do when you hit the power button. I would check under device manager>computer and see if you are using acpi or standard pc. If it says standard pc, check to see if acpi was inadvertently disabled in the bios.

It says ACPI computer
In control panel --> power options --> advanced there is When I press power button on my computer... "Switch off" or "Standby" It's at switch off at the moment, but there really should be options such as "Sleep" and "Shutdown" I'm sure Thanks, Jim |
